An Intro to Healthy Fast Food

By Maciej Golebiewski

It's late, you're hungry and you really don't feel like cooking. You're way overdue for a hearty meal, your stomach is churning -you think your only way out is fast food. You begin to rustle up some ideas of fast food joints you can hit up.

Well, put down those car keys and think for a minute, is it really worth it?

There's so many choices out there that you are overlooking, not only can you yourself make a faster meal but it can be healthier and tastier as well, you'll end up saving money too.

If you're anything like the average American and or college student, think back and think about how much money you have spent on fast food over the course of your life. Now is the time to step forward, and think ahead! Healthy fast food made at home is the way to go!

Start planning, it will help you pull yourself together. Make a shopping list, or better yet go to the grocery store and stock up on items that will fulfill your late night food fantasies. Consider stocking yourself up on:

Prepared pizza crust, pasta, whole grain pastries, taco shells, and cereals.

Two percent milk, shredded cheese for that prepared crust and or tacos, eggs, canned tuna (mmm protein), peanut butter, ground beef patties, and meatballs.

Fresh fruits and vegetables, fruits are an amazing way to satisfy that late night sweet tooth.

Now that you're all stocked up, it's time to start cooking!

Spend a couple hours over the weekend preparing your meals for later in the week or weeks even.

Make some super sandwiches, home made will taste a lot better than Subway or any other such chain sub shop.

Whip out those beef burger patties and serve them on some whole grain buns or bread even, add some salad, tomatoes, cheese, and mayo and your good to go. Don't be afraid to experiment, try adding some pickles, carrots, mushrooms, or anything tasty you might have in the fridge.

You can also make some tuna melts with cheese on whole wheat bread, add some veggies and you'll enjoy a nice tasty meal.

Be sure to make more of anything you make to have some for later, wrap it in surran wrap to preserve freshness.

An hour or two can allow you to make some amazing main courses to last you a while, try making these:

Take out your slow cooker and throw in some ingredients for beef stew or chilli, now you have time for chillin'.

Put together that pizza that you bought the ingredients for, or learn to make some healthy lasagna (how to coming soon!)

Remember to make more of whatever your making and freeze the rest.

Bon Apetit! Be sure to visit soon for more in depth guides and reviews for healthy fast food!
