Did you know that slim and obese people consume the same amount of fat? If that is so, then why do some people become obese and others do not? The reason is slimmer people also consume heavy amounts of fiber and reduce intake of sugar.
What we should learn is to reduce fat content from food. One gram of fat contains nine calories so instead of focusing on the calories, you should focus on the fat content reduction.
Here are few proven tips:
Reduce fat intake to 30 percent of total calories by actually 'reading' the nutrition details printed in products before purchasing.
Every food you consume contains a minimal amount of fat so do not be carried away with food products that say 'no cholesterol'.
When you buy meat, choose those portions that contain leaner cuts of meat like top round of flank steak or tenderloin rather than those which are too fatty like the rib roast and the ground chuck.
Never shop for food items when you are hungry; you mind will automatically wander into selecting those
foods which have high calorie content.
Stop eating while you are cooking. Most of us have this habit of eating tidbits when we cook. To curb this, eat something like a fruit or raw vegetables before your begin cooking.
Instead of using butter and oils for cooking, choose the non-stick vegetable cooking spray.
Before you cook meats, trim the fatty layers, if any, by using kitchen scissors.
To reduce fat content from soups and stews, refrigerate them after cooking first. When the soup or stew turns cold, the fat content settles on the top which can be easily skimmed away, then reheat and serve the food.
Instead of cooking poultry and fish in oil, bake it.
When sauteeing vegetables or chicken, do not use oil. What you can do is take small amount of chicken broth and add a pinch of garlic. Then saute the vegetables or chicken in this solution.
Use cooking techniques that utilize less fat or oil like grilling, steaming, stir- frying or poaching.
Make salads healthier by adding freshly chopped celery to salads than croutons.
Keep the menu simple; reduce the number of dishes made daily. The less you make, the less you eat.
