Tasty Indian Applams

By Venkat Krishnan

What is an Applam?

It is a delicious and tasty Indian snack which is used as a side-dish during the tea time and also during lunch which is consumed along with rice. It is a little bit salty with a flour taste which makes it an ideal snack for the tea time. It's round in shape like a circle which when dipped in hot oil it expands and lighten up to eat and it will be crispy in nature.

Preparation of Applam:-

It is prepared mainly from Rice Flour which is stream boiled and nicely mixed in to a big ball shape along with lemon extract, Salt, Green chilly, and Coconut Oil. And made in to round shaped and it is kept in hot sun for 7 days.

Cooking of Applam:-

It is very easy to cook just keep a vessel in the gas stove, Ignite the stove and then pour half liter of oil any cooking oil will suit like sunflower oil, rice brand oil, coconut oil. And then let the oil heated up for around 10 minutes.

Then take a round shaped applam and put it in the oil, Immediately you will see the applam expands and lighten up to eat and it will be crispy in nature. Now your tasty and delicious applam is ready to serve and children like it very much as a snack and same to the elders as well.

But the catch is it is a little bit sticky in your teeth because of the rice flour so what I recommend is to wash your mouth after eating it with normal water or you can use a tooth pick as well.
