It does not matter who you are, the minute you commit to eating healthier to lose weight or simply get fit-you start thinking about food!
And while most people feel snacking between meals is bad, especially when you are trying to lose weight, actually the opposite is true-if you choose the right foods.
By choosing the right foods, you can help keep your blood sugar levels more stable, which will help prevent hunger, making it easier for you to stick to your diet and reach your weight loss goal.
PROTEIN
I know this comes from my bodybuilding background but whenever I feel like snacking, I almost always reach for the protein powder.
My (current) favorite protein powder recipe is to mix up a scoop of chocolate protein, a sugar-free orange fiber supplement and some cocoa.
Believe it or not the orange mixes in great with the chocolate and it tastes good.
Most times I will finish off the snack with some form of nut-usually raw unsalted almonds but walnuts are great too.
POPCORN
Yes, the old movie theater standby, popcorn is a great snack.
It provides fiber, and (as long as it is air popped) you can have a ton of it and not take in very many calories at all
Great stuff for someone who is trying to lose weight.
VEGETABLE SNACKS
Vegetables make wonderful snacks; they are low-calorie and are like the above popcorn and high in volume.
By this I mean you can snack on say carrot sticks and celery all day long and really need have no concerns about calories as you will be ingesting so few that it really will not matter.
Another thing I find great about things like carrots, celery and broccoli-or any crunchy vegetable is that they take time chew-which means a couple of stalks of celery will go a long way.
Plus to be honest, I simply like the crunch.
If you are looking to drop a few pounds do your self a favor and keep some vegetables handy at home and at work-this way whenever you get the urge to snack you can grab some and you are good-to-go.
Another thing you can do is to keep a shaker bottle filled with protein powder at your desk at work and then when the urge to snack strikes, all you need is some water and you have a quick snack.
CONCLUSION
Losing weight is never going to be easy, but trust me, if you take the time to find a number of healthy, snacks that you can nibble on during the day-you will find that losing weight will get just a little bit easier.
And there is nothing wrong with that!
